How we built an online training platform that grew from 0 to 200,000 learners in 18 months, tripling load speed and reducing dropout by 45%.
The challenge
The online training company had grown rapidly, but its Moodle-based platform could not handle the load. Videos would stutter with more than 500 concurrent users, the interface was confusing for non-technical learners, there was no gamification, and the completion rate was just 22%. They needed a custom platform that could scale to hundreds of thousands of learners without sacrificing the experience.
Our solution
We built an LMS from scratch with React and Node.js. The video infrastructure uses serverless transcoding with AWS MediaConvert and distribution via CloudFront with global edge caching. We implemented a gamification system with daily streaks, unlockable badges and weekly leaderboards that dramatically boosted engagement. The learning analytics engine powered by xAPI detects dropout patterns and triggers personalized automated notifications. The entire frontend meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards and supports SCORM 2004 for importing third-party content.
Regulatory compliance and educational standards

WCAG 2.1 AA and EAA
The European Accessibility Directive (EAA) requires educational platforms to comply with WCAG 2.1 level AA from June 2025. Keyboard navigation, NVDA/VoiceOver compatibility, minimum 4.5:1 contrast, video subtitles and audio description.
SCORM 1.2 / 2004
Full support of SCORM standards for importing and exporting content between LMS platforms. Progress tracking, scores, study time and completion status. Compatible with content created in Articulate, Captivate and iSpring.
xAPI (Tin Can API)
The successor to SCORM for advanced learning analytics. Records any learning experience (not just within the LMS): videos watched, documents downloaded, practical exercises, simulations and in-person activities. Own Learning Record Store (LRS).
LTI 1.3 / Advantage
Learning Tools Interoperability for securely integrating external tools: code editors, virtual labs, video conferencing tools, collaborative whiteboards. OAuth 2.0 authentication and bidirectional grade passing.
GDPR and educational data
Protection of minors data (parental consent for <14 years in Spain), academic performance data, data minimization, right to be forgotten and portability. Retention policies adapted to certification obligations.
Digital certificates
Issuance of verifiable digital credentials according to the Open Badges 3.0 standard and European Digital Credentials (EDCI). Public verification, shareable on LinkedIn and professional networks, with acquired competency metadata and training hours.
